
Experiences from other Asian countries show that people who have gone abroad to work can be reintegrated into the economies of their home countries but it’s a complex process that requires government leadership.
That’s one of the conclusions of the recent episode of my podcast, Nepal Now. I spoke with Bijaya Rai Shrestha of the Migrant Women Returnees Committee and Ramesh Sunam of Waseda University on a number of issues including:
- domestic violence as a driver of labour migration of Nepali women
- impacts of COVID19 on Nepali migration, including when and how it might resume
- differences between labour migration to India and other countries.
